The terms kiteboarding and kitesurfing are interchangeable, with the USA and other countries referring to the sport as kiteboarding and the UK and a few other countries referring to the sport as kitesurfing. There are a number of different styles of kiteboarding, including freestyle (most common and utilises standard kite and board) or wake-style (flatter water using board with bindings) and wave-riding which is focused on big waves using a board designed for wave riding. A\u00a0<em>kitesurfer<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>kiteboarder<\/em>\u00a0uses a board with or without foot-straps or bindings, combined with the power of a large controllable kite to propel the rider and the board across the water. <strong>Windsurfing<\/strong>is a\u00a0surface water sport\u00a0that combines elements of\u00a0surfing\u00a0and sailing. It consists of a board usually 2 to 3 metres long, with a volume of about 60 to 250 liters, powered by wind on a sail. The rig is connected to the board by a\u00a0free-rotating universal joint\u00a0and consists of a\u00a0mast, 2-sidedboom\u00a0and\u00a0sail. The sail area generally ranges from 2.5\u00a0m<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0to 12\u00a0m<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0depending on the conditions, the skill of the sailor and the type of windsurfing being undertaken. <strong>Sailing<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0propulsion\u00a0of a vehicle and the control of its movement with large (usually fabric) foils called\u00a0sails. By changing the\u00a0rigging,\u00a0rudder, and sometimes the\u00a0keel\u00a0or\u00a0centreboard, a\u00a0sailor\u00a0manages the force of the\u00a0wind\u00a0on the sails in order to move the vessel relative to its surrounding medium (typically water, but also\u00a0land\u00a0and\u00a0ice) and change its direction and speed.
